How it all began!

The air was crisp and the sun still shining as the girls from Mister Mode braved the cold icy warehouse to turn it into their vision on that Thursday afternoon. The set up began early in the day and the spruce up initiated. Tables, DJ equipment, brooms, bins, strings, spray cans, folders, pens, cash register, drinks, cups and you name it – all the other essentials of a good night out.

Hit 4 o’clock in the afternoon, the stallholders started rolling in with copious amounts of clothes and bags of clothes. Some of them lugging the ol’ wheeley luggage and others who brought them in laundry baskets. The stallholders then laid out their sale items in a tactful manner that would appeal to the eye through colours, prints and cheap signs. $10 and $2 and even 0.50c signs were posted more than you could imagine. These girls/boys needed more room in their closets that a great offer is what they brought along on the night.

An hour till the doors open and already we had people walking off the streets to come check out our event. But the stalls were still being set up and the girls at Mister Mode wanted their event to come in with a bang. So shoo’ed the guests out they did with a kindly, “Please come back in an hour!”.

Then before they knew it, 6 o’clock came and people just started rolling in. The tip to markets is based on the first come first serve basis – people who come early will be lucky enough to pick that leather jacket selling at $20 that you would’ve loved to have. So even though most of us are used to being fashionably late – in this instance, being late to a Mister Mode even will cost you fashionably.

The night went smoothly and beautifully, with a range of 300 guests, the warehouse was booming with the latest indie beats mixed by the boys from Partners in Crime and a red plastic cup in most hands. Clothes were sold, and new key pieces were found. And when the girls at Mister Mode were asked how the night went, they smiled and said “It couldn’t have been gone any better”. And whilst questions lurked on when the next Mister Mode should be? All that was heard was that Mister Mode was definitely not a once-off and we should keep our eyes, ears and hands peeled to spot our next big bargain.
