Mister Mode Stallholder Feature: Meet Son Valise by Vincent Corneille and his knack for turning sound into vintage art.

August 21, 2012 - 1:32 pm

Aside from amazing vintage finds, Mister Mode is happy to bring you Son Valise JukeCases – recycled speakers and suitcases that have been turned into portable hi-fis. Meet Vincent Corneille, the creator and founder of these functional works of art, which will turn heads, and your listening experience into an absolute delight. A cancer research scientist by day, it’s clear that Vincent has applied qualities of wonderment, curiosity and care into creating these cases of transportable music.

This is one scientist that has got us mad for his wares!

If the future of recycling pays such an ingenious tribute to the past, we aren’t looking back anytime soon. Besides supporting the sustainable element of secondhand clothes, Son Valise does justice to Mister Mode’s strong cause of celebrating individuality, creativity and innovation.

Thanks for your time, Vincent! We can’t wait to see you there!

Upcycling and reviving vintage wares with hidden modern technology.

There was a gap in the market for portable hifi. The available mass-manufacturered commercial units lacked audio-quality and style. We spent a few weeks over summer tinkering in the garage and once we took our prototype out for a spin people started requesting their very own JukeCase.

I am a music enthusiast and day-to-day work as a cancer research scientist. My brain-cogs are always turning so Son Valise is a great creative outlet after-hours.

The Son Valise customer appreciates quality and uniqueness. They are outgoing and like to share experiences with their friends.

Each JukeCase is handmade and unique. Unlike many portable audio products we are not trying to shrink our JukeCases to be as small as possible. We like the quality and aesthetic of having large speakers and units that look and feel like they aren’t trying to cram in too many features. We keep the technology hidden beneath the vintage facade.

Its not a person, more a place: Melbourne! I love this city so much and all of its inhabitants. There is a such a nuturing environment for people to take a chance and build something new and different. And at the end of the day its all about kicking back with an ice-cold drink on a hot summers day listening to music with your nearest and dearest.

The moment when I finish a JukeCase and listen to what has been created is a very rewarding experience. So I am always eager to complete the construction and play some music! So I guess thats what goes through my head when I am sourcing/crafting the wares. There is no particular vibe as sometimes you can’t predict what things will look and sound like until they are staring/shouting at you in the face.

We are constantly exploring and experimenting with different audio ideas. Who knows what the future holds!?

Timeless.

We lose track of time looking at these wonderfully nostalgic JukeCases as well.

It’s definitely something to keep your eye (and ears) out for and would make any music buff incredibly happy! Can you feel the thumping beats already? Gather your troops together and get ready for a great time this Saturday!
