Mister Mode Musicians Feature: Meet ‘You, Me & Her’, Melbourne’s newest trio that will sing your memories alive.

August 10, 2012 - 12:41 pm

Only a couple of sleeps to go till the Mister Mode Winter Event!

We thought we’d start the countdown by introducing some of our talents whose music will get you shopping and bopping away that night.

First up, we have “You, Me & Her”, an acoustic trio comprising of Shenal Peiris, Han Soh and Gwenda Shim. While the band’s formation was fairly recent, their last performance at the Limelight was certainly something they enjoyed immensely. In other words, they’ll jump at any chance they get to perform!

Much of You, Me & Her’s music is a harmonious calamity inspired by karaoke songs, blues, rock, indie and alternative. Which pretty much describes how they got together in the first place – as a pseudo impromptu follow-up act at a nightclub. You, Me & Her are still very, very new to the scene, so they’re hoping to find their feet (and sound) through lots of practice, lots of goofing off, lots of songwriting, lots of warbling and most of all lots of performing. By the end of every performance, their music aims to remind you of every awesome memory you’ve ever had. No matter how painful.

Music has always been a big part of our lives, in some way or another, be it a reluctant first introduction when we were little, too many karaoke nights, and being truly inspired by our favourite artists, we thought that forming a band would give us a legitimate outlet for all this energy and inspiration. That and we needed some structure. Random jam sessions and YouTube recordings were getting creepy. We set out to make people smile when they listen to us. Because we like people.

We’re pretty open-minded when it comes to music. We get inspired by a lot of different artists, a lot of different genres, but you can definitely hear hints of John Mayer floating through our guitar strains. Hence our guitarist is lovingly known as ChocoMayer, a velvety tanned version of the man himself (it’s a nickname he’d do anything to discard). We unwittingly listen to alot of pop, a lot of indie, rock. folk and alternative. Interpreting popular Top 100 songs in our own way helps us find our sound and come up with our own music too. So, yes, there is some Bieber in the list. We love the fact that all music genres inadvertently gets inspired by each other, so it challenges us to come up with a distinct sound.

We’re brand spanking new! Although some of us come from technically trained backgrounds and other bands, we’ve barely scratched the surface of being a full-blown force of nature in the industry. We find that it’s definitely rewarding to have a reason to collaborate with your friends creatively, to have a break in routine and to just have fun. The bonus is that we get to (hopefully) entertain people by doing what we love so it’s always a win-win.
