I WAS INVITED TO THE SWOON BOUTIQUE STORE LAUNCH that happened 2 nights ago, in Auburn Village, Hawthorn. Now, I knew about Swoon when I first met Brahman Perera a couple months back. Brahman happens to be the head designer and founder of Elgar and Lyle – An independent accessories label seen spotted on most fashionista’s neckline) alongside his Swoon partner, Keegan Hunt, who is the founder and head designer of Melbourne’s independent label Margery Daw.

So my understanding of the concept of SWOON Boutique was for it to be an accumulation of independent Australian designers in the one boutique outlet. Having gone to several store launches in the last few months, what I expected was to see some familiar faces, congratulate Keegan and Brahman and have a bubbly or two. But what I didn’t expect, was to be completely blown away.

The store fit out exceeded any boutique layout I have seen in a while, and the translation of visual aesthetics and décor all came together to give the best store experience one could have. Brahman even joked about having the store open for ‘Friday quite night drinks’ where he’d open the doors for sneaky champagne on Friday nights. We joked and laughed about it but I simply thought it was a great idea, the more personable you get with your peers, the better. And Brahman and Keegan seem to be right on top of that game.

I also found out on the night that Lisa of Couturing (@lisacouturing) lives just around the corner from me and we are going to make a date to venture down to Camberwell markets one of these weekend. Not that I don’t already frequent there, but going with someone who is just an avid preloved shopper as I am would be amazing and also a great photo op!

Til’ then, do take some time to check out the Swoon boutique. They are located on 109 Auburn Road Hawthorn VIC 3122 and house over 40 independent Melbourne designer labels!

Only open as a Pop-up, don’t wait til it’s too late and now you know of a great spot to find amazing pieces whilst supporting our fellow talented designers! And trust me, my photos are just the start of it.

So troops, you can find Swoon on their facebook, twitter or website.

LAST SATURDAY, NUFFNANG KICKED OFF THEIR ANNUAL FASHIONOPOLIS DAY FOR BLOGGERS and the hype and buzz of 150 bloggers from Australia and even overseas proved the day to be an instant success. The last couple of months, my days has been filled with planning for the first Mister Mode Fashion Night Market event of 2012 and I have apologised in advanced for sometimes neglecting my blog.

But last Saturday, I decided to take my blogging career to the next level and learn more about what the industry is all about. One of the most helpful tips I got was out of Phoebe Montague of Lady Melbourne (@ladymelbourne), who is a pioneer in the Melbourne blogging industry. To have great insight coming from someone who started from the ground up was inspirational and a big eye opener as well. One of the key things she touched on was that, a blog shouldn’t be sold just for its unique visits or page loads, but it is also about the person behind it and what you have to offer in your own individual experiences.

Now, outside my spent time on blogging, I also work full time in a Creative Advertising Digital Agency called Sputnik Agency. I always thought I needed to separate both aspects of my life and career into two individual entities, but Phoebe made me realize that I shouldn’t.

Why keep them separate when both aspects of my expeirence can benefit each other simultaneously?

The day was held in the beautiful Thousand Pound Bend warehouse and having it be my first Fashionopolis event, I honestly did not know what to expect. Domain flowers had even themed the social grid with their beautiful floral display, “The eggs represented tweets and blogging ideas that have not yet hatched –  in the same way that the blogosphere is still in gestation”, says Kyra (@PybusPR).  One of the main things I loved about the event is all the wonderful like-minded people I was able to meet – all of whom blog because they love fashion and sharing their opinions, insights & style. A very inspirational bunch, I must say.

I will be putting up the photos on my Pinterest account, so do leave a comment below and list down your blog so I can associate your image with your blog URL on Pinterest.

Til’ then Troops, hope you are inspired by all this Melbourne style!

On the last Saturday of April 2012, the Mister Mode Fashion Night Market Autumn event took Melbourne by a storm for it’s first event of the year. We promised the biggest event yet, filled with a large open plan warehouse, up & coming talented musicians, a bigger variety of stalls and fashion, a very special innovative performance, a digital photobooth, a bigger bar, food & treats, and a range of sponsors so that all Mode troops could walk away with in a special Mode gift bag.

The Mister Mode Fashion Night Market autumn event started a little early than normal this year with it’s doors opening at 3pm, catching the keen day shoppers who were looking for something different. Aldo Rumantir, a soulful acoustic singer and songwriter graced us as an opening act to fill the room with sweet melodies and enchanting tunes.

The day progressed with more keen shoppers and new faces to discover what Mister Mode is about. As an upcoming Melbourne lifestyle & culture event, many attendees had no idea what to expect. And from what they said, Mister Mode blew them away.

Come peak hour time, the entire warehouse was packed and the room was bustling with hundreds of people. Davy Simony who had performed at our Summer event, tantalized the crowd once again with his original folk-soul melodies and Andrew Lim, a Melbourne artist whom you will soon hear on the radio, entertained the crowd with his acoustic pop-rock tunes.

When tummies started rumbling towards the end of the day, all attendees could find Massive Wieners to fill their grumbling stomachs and a sweet treat for desert. As a latest addition to the Mister Mode event, we invited creative food designers to wow our Mode troopers with chocolate designed treats and assorted macaroons.

To follow on the night, we had the well-loved country-blues band ‘The Ugly Kings’ and rising reality-TV star ‘Laura Loe’ performing a set that mesmerized a live crowd. Throughout the day, we even had gift raffles to ensure that everyone stood a chance to win a piece from Cleansui, Adixions Chocolates, Massive Wieners, Time Out Melbourne and Mister Mode.  Not to forget our special photobooth app, Modest, who captured street style outfits of Mode fashionites all day.

The special highlight of the night was of course a performance by Chris Vik (a.k.a Synaecide) whose performance entailed creating live electronic music using the Xbox Kinect and hand movement. Eventhough his innovative style of performing is still a new development to the general public, he managed to hold the room to a standstill by literally making music, with the control of his hand movements in front of the Xbox Kinect.

So, the first Mister Mode event of 2012 proved to be a grand success! With all our Mode troopers bringing friends along for this experience special to Melbourne’s lifestyle culture, this is definitely an event not to be missed. With word already coming from interstate of friends who are keen to make the trip down to Mebourne for our next event, it’s time to keep a clear schedule for August as Mister Mode will be back, a bigger and better experience each time onwards.

A massive big thank you to our Sponsors: Time Out Melbourne, Cleansui, Massive Wieners, Adixions Chocolates, Modest Iphone App and Palmers for providing all our Mode Troopers a special something to walk away with.

Also a bigger shout-out to all our stallholders, musicians and Mode Troopers who came on the night to be apart of this one of a kind experience.

Til’ then, follow us on Facebook and Twitter to be the first to find out when we leak news to our next Mister Mode event.

See you then Troops! In the meantime, remember to spread the word ;)

BIG THANKS TO MEAGAN HARDING PHOTOGRAPHY FOR HER CAPTURING THE NIGHT BEAUTIFULLY.
